Our “out-of-the-classroom” experiential activities prepare students to apply invaluable hands-on learning experiences to real-world scenarios, giving them the potential to achieve greater success in their education and careers.

Participate in skills training and other leadership development programs such as the college’s Forest, Environment and Wildlife Leadership (FEWL) Academy to increase your professional skills and potential for career advancement.
Join a service club, academic society or student organization such as Student Ambassadors or Society for Natural Resources to develop a civic mindset, learn new skills and build connections among your peer group and industry.
Drawing from nine research centers, our expert faculty will provide you with many exciting opportunities to gain valuable skills and experience conducting, analyzing and evaluating research within any number of natural resource-focused topics.
Volunteering to assist with a program, event or to lead a campus tour is an excellent way for you to gain hands-on learning experience, build your resume with valuable job skills and engage with your community.
Attending or volunteering at college-sponsored activities will help you create a network of support within the CFWE family that will enable you to enjoy a more enriching college experience and achieve greater academic success.
Whether studying wildlife management in the African savannas or tropical conservation and sustainable development practices in Costa Rica, you can choose from a wide-range of study abroad experiences that will expand your world-view and enhance your academic learning.

Empowering Extension & Outreach

Our mission is to improve the social, economic and environmental well-being of Alabama’s citizens through the production of science-based information, materials and programs that help foster the sustainable use of our natural resources.

The CFWE and its partners utilize the College’s state-of-the-art facilities and nearly 6,000 acres of outdoor classrooms to provide natural resource education for youth, students, citizens, and leaders through science-based programs, workshops, and field training.
