Auburn University will host the International Conference on Forest Carbon and Resilience (ICFCR) at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center Sept. 29 – Oct. 1, 2025, in Auburn, Alabama.
With a dual focus, the conference will be a venue for scientists, forest managers, landowners and professionals to expand their knowledge within the areas of forest-based carbon and resilience, the role of forests and forest products in carbon storage and sequestration and the resistance, adaptation and resilience of forests in changing environments.
Janaki Alavalapati, the Emmett F. Thompson Dean of the College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment(CFWE), will welcome attendees, and Steve Taylor, Auburn University’s vice president for research and economic development, will provide opening remarks.
The multidisciplinary planning committee, chaired by Daowei Zhang, associate dean of research and the Alumni and George W. Peake Professor of Forest Economics in the CFWE, has chosen five expert keynote speakers hailing from academia, private industry, government and nongovernmental organizations within the United States and abroad. They include:
- Jiquan Chen, professor, Department of Geography, Environment, and Spatial Sciences, College of Social Science, Michigan State University
- Colette DeGarady, director, Longleaf Pine Whole System, The Nature Conservancy
- Jesse Henderson, project leader, Forest Economics and Policy, U.S. Forest Service
- Brent Keefer, CEO, American Forest Management (AFM)
- Christopher Woodall, director, U.S. Forest Science and Policy, CTrees
Within its coupled theme of forest carbon and resilience, the committee has identified more than 90 speakers who will address the interests of various stakeholders with panel discussions, concurrent and plenary sessions covering topics such as:
- Forest carbon markets, programs, management and policies
- Forest measurements, new tools and emerging geospatial technologies for accurate carbon measurement across multiple scales
- Climate-smart forestry management contributing to carbon sequestration and forest resilience
- Landowner behavior, responses, and participation in carbon market programs
“We are excited about this exceptional opportunity to share and expand knowledge within the areas of forest-based carbon and resilience,” said Alavalapati. “Exploring practical approaches for policy that strengthens opportunities for private forest landowners and enables healthier and more resilient forests, provides important economic and environmental benefits for both communities and wildlife.”
Early bird registration rates and accommodations are still available at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center through Aug.25, 2025.
