The Sustainable Future of CLT in the South: Grow. Design. Build.

Cross-laminated timber, or CLT, is a growing industry in the southern United States, with southern pine and other softwoods abundantly found in the region. Using CLT has numerous economic and environmental benefits, thereby benefiting many sectors along the supply chain, including landowners and foresters, developers and contractors, architects and engineers.

Learn more about this innovative construction material and other sustainable wood products at the Auburn University-hosted CLT conference, “The Sustainable Future of CLT in the South: Grow. Design. Build.” held April 27 – 29, 2022, in Auburn, Alabama. This three-day first-of-its-kind event will feature renowned experts in forestry, building sciences, engineering, and architecture and design.

Conference topics will address the latest CLT research, trends, and developments in the South. Session tracks will serve the interests of multiple audiences, including designers, builders, contractors, forestry professionals, academics, landowners, manufacturers, and suppliers.

Conference Overview

DAY 1 (04/27/22): Meet, Mix & Mingle

Arrival/registration will begin at 3 pm CST at The Hotel at Auburn University & Dixon Conference Center. A welcome reception will follow at 5 pm. Exhibitors are encouraged to complete setup during night one.

DAY 2 (04/28/22): Presentations, Panels & Posters

After breakfast, keynote speakers will share their insights via presentations and a Q&A panel. Following lunch, attendees can select from two concurrent presentations to attend. A poster session with networking opportunities and dinner will follow.

DAY 3 (04/29/22): Talk, Table & Tour

On day three, attendees have flexibility! They can stay at the venue and participate in discussions or choose from one of two tour options, the first tour remains in Auburn to visit several CLT facilities, testing labs, etc., and the other tour will visit the SmartLam North America CLT manufacturing plant in Dothan, AL. Transportation will be provided.

The southern yellow pine cross-laminated timber (CLT) market in the South is buzzing. This earth-friendly, cost-effective, fire-resistant, versatile material is the future. At this conference, attendees will have the opportunity to hear from and innovate alongside industry professionals with backgrounds in forestry, building sciences, engineering, architecture, design, and sustainable business.

Q: What are the COVID-19 safety protocols?

A: Throughout our event, we will adhere to COVID-19 safety protocols established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and local health authorities. All venue employees will wear masks and hand sanitizer will be provided to registrants. We are creating traffic flow plans to minimize lines and provide safe spaces for networking and learning.

Q: Do I need to bring a printed ticket or proof of registration to the event?

A: No, we will have all registrations documented. Please wear your name badge, so you can be easily recognized and identified.

Q: What is the refund policy?

A: 100% refund until 03/25/22. 50% refund between 03/26/22 and 04/13/22. In the event the conference is postponed or canceled, refunds will be issued in full. To request a refund, contact Caroline Camus at (706) 201-2632 or email cec0195@auburn.edu.

Q: What materials will be provided to exhibitors?

A: Each exhibitor will receive a table (either 6′ x 30″ or 6′ x 18″) and two chairs. Exhibits will be located centrally in the Prefunction Foyer and the Prefunction Hall of the Dixon Conference Center. Please specify in your registration if your team requires special accommodations.

Q: What materials will be provided to poster presenters?

A: Each presenter will receive an easel with a foam board for mounting posters. Pushpins will be provided. Posters of standard size (3′ x 4′) or smaller are encouraged. The poster session will occur on the evening of Thursday, April 28, although presenters are welcome to set up their posters upon their arrival so that they can be viewed throughout the conference.
