Summer Practicum Fees and Equipment

Tuition

Students attending summer practicum will pay both tuition and summer practicum fees.


Tuition is billed by credit hours and will be paid to Auburn University.

• Wildlife students register for 6 credit hours
• Forestry students register for 11 credit hours

Summer 2026 Practicum Fees

Wildlife Practicum 5-weeks  (May 4 – June 5)

Housing, Food & Technology $1,744.96
Damage Deposit (Refundable) $150.00
TOTAL $1,894.96

Payment may be made by check or credit card (AMEX is not accepted).

Payment will be accepted from April 23 to May 1 by Ms. Suanne Gilbert in CFWE Room 3301L.

Forestry Practicum 8-weeks (May 11 – July 10)

Housing, Food & Technology $3,205.88
Damage Deposit (Refundable) $150.00
Equipment fees, including tax** $550.00
TOTAL** Approximately $3,905.88

Payment may be made by check or credit card (AMEX is not accepted).

Payment will be taken upon arrival at the Solon Dixon Forestry Education Center.

*Damage Deposit – This refundable damage deposit will be returned after the conclusion of the summer practicum after damage assessments of facilities have been completed.

**Equipment Fees – The final cost of forestry equipment fees has not yet been determined, and the above fee is approximate only. The final cost will be a function of the retail prices at the time of purchase. Specific items are listed below.

Supplies


Required for Forestry students (available for purchase at practicum and included in fees above as Equipment Fees**):

Loggers tape (100 ft.), Texas Instruments TI‑30Xa scientific calculator, cruiser’s vest, engineer’s scale, Suunto clinometer (percent and topographic), lab manual for FORY 3020 and FORY 3050, USGS Dixie Quadrangle and symbol sheet, Mesavage & Girard volume tables, Leitz field book, journal book, earplugs, hard hat (ERB Americana), compass MC2, 10‑BAF prism, 12‑inch ruler, topographic maps, horseshoe nail, protractor, safety glasses, and 3‑H pencils.

Required for Forestry students (not available on-site and should be purchased before practicum):

The following three textbooks are available from the AU Bookstore or Amazon.

Required for Wildlife students (not available on-site and should be purchased before practicum):

Backpack, hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, water bottle, pencils, multi-tool/pocket knife, binoculars, ID books (plants, birds, etc.), notebooks (’write in the rain’ notebooks are best), calculator, bath towel, and clothing suited for extended wet field conditions (long sleeves, long pants).

Recommended for Forestry AND Wildlife students (not available on-site):

  • A general collegiate-type dictionary and thesaurus
  • Leather boots, 6 inch or higher (2 pairs are recommended)
  • Poncho or other rain gear
  • Insect repellent (several containers)
  • Snake leggings (optional)
  • Hydration pack (Camelbak or other)
  • Clothing & shoes suited for extended wet field conditions
  • Clipboard
  • Stick/Flash drive
  • Headlamp or flashlight and batteries
  • Laptop computer (wireless service is available)

Other essential and more expensive equipment will be checked out to students. Students will be financially responsible for any lost or damaged equipment and property. Some equipment will be checked out to crews. In such cases, the crew as a whole shares responsibility for loss or damage.
