SUMMARY:2023 CFWE Spring Seminar Series - Abraham Joy
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 Spring Seminar Series will feature Abraham Joy\, Professor in the Department of Polymer Science at the University of Akron\, who will give a talk titled ‘Challenges of chronic wound healing as an inspiration for the development of a peptide-like polymer platform‘ on Tuesday\, April 4\, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 2217 of the College of Forestry\, Wildlife and Environment Building. Refreshments will be available after the seminar\, and CFEs are available upon request. See the full spring schedule here. \nDr. Joy will describe the development of a modular polymer platform that mimics the structural diversity of peptides. The versatility of the platform is being used to address the challenges of chronic wound healing while addressing bacterial biofilms and the resultant non-healing wounds. \nDr. Abraham Joy is a professor of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering at the University of Akron. The Joy Lab develops peptidomimetic biomaterials and studies their interactions with mammalian and bacterial cells. The outcomes of these research initiatives are applied to unmet needs in wound healing\, bacterial infections\, biofilm control\, tissue adhesives\, sustained delivery of proteins and small molecule therapeutics. Abraham obtained a PhD in physical organic photochemistry at Tulane University. He then carried out two post-doctoral stints\, the first one in bio-organic chemistry at Georgia Tech and the second one in biomaterials at Rutgers University.  \nFaculty\, students\, and the public are invited to attend this program. Parking is available in the South Quad Parking Deck on the third and fourth floors.
