SUMMARY:2023 CFWE Spring Seminar Series - Ashley Schulz
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 Spring Seminar Series will feature Ashely Schulz\, Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry at Mississippi State University\, who will give a talk titled ‘The quest to forecast the next high-impact insects on North American conifers and hardwoods’ on Tuesday\, March 14\, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 2217 of the College of Forestry\, Wildlife and Environment Building. Refreshments will be available after the seminar\, and CFEs are available upon request. See the full spring schedule here. \nDr. Schulz’s talk will discuss the question\, “can we identify invasive forest insects before they invade?” Dr. Schulz will share the origin story of a cool\, new tool called i-Tree Pest Predictor.   \n \nDr. Ashley Schulz earned her B.S. in Forestry from the University of Missouri-Columbia\, M.S. in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia\, and Ph.D. in Environmental Sciences from Arkansas State University. She is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Forestry at Mississippi State University. Her research interests broadly include forest ecology\, forest health\, and preventing and managing forest disturbances. Specifically\, her research currently focuses on developing a tool that can predict the next high-impact insect invaders in North American urban and natural forests\, and monitoring and controlling invasive species\, such as cogongrass\, in southeastern forest ecosystems. Faculty\, students\, and the public are invited to attend this program. Parking is available in the South Quad Parking Deck on the third and fourth floors.
